Circulation pump

Circulation pumps are used to maintain the circulation of domestic hot (drinking) water in residential houses. Their main function is to ensure that the hot water is constantly circulated through the system to prevent it from cooling down. This allows immediate access to hot water when the tap is turned on, without the need to wait for cold water to drain and then for hot water to flow from the boiler.

Smaller circulation pumps with a maximum discharge of approximately 1 metre are commonly used in typical houses. The height of the maximum discharge is not related to the height of the building, but to the minimum losses in the circulation system. Higher displacement will be required in larger installations such as apartment buildings or in systems with small diameter pipework. Displacement in this case may be 4-6 metres.

Circulation pumps are made of materials that are non-hazardous and do not affect water quality, which is why they are also referred to as 'circulation'. It is important to note that pumps designed for heating should never be used for pumping hot water.
